Has the jellyfish predators?

jellyfish are slimy and disgusting. You can throw it and some burn on the skin .

But what about the wildlife? Are there any natural enemies of the jellyfish?

Yes - a lot even

should be mentioned here only a few: seals, turtles, sperm whales, sharks, tuna and other fish. Sun

eat leatherback turtles (the animals reach a carapace length of up to 2.5 meters and weighing nearly 700 kg) twice daily of one's own body weight in jellyfish.

But the jellyfish eat each other out.

"jellyfish term" With the ballast water of freighters, the unassuming little jellyfish called Mnemiopsis leidyi in the early eighties introduced into the Black Sea. Normally these animals live off the east coast of the USA.

The slimy invaders become sexually mature in just two weeks, and produce every day, eight thousand generations. In the summer of 1989, researchers have found places in the Black Sea jellyfish more than one kilogram per square meter. The hungry animals consume fish eggs, larvae and animal plankton. The fish stock plummeted downward. Then in 1997 in the ballast water in turn brought in another comb jelly: one from the genus Beroe. It feeds almost exclusively on Mnemiopsis and whose holdings decimated in a short time. Then took home plankton species and the anchovy again significantly. In quite a short time, the Black Sea from the jellyfish invasion has recovered. be eating

and eaten. Again and again the same game. Man also adds this balance again and again to a loss by many fish species befÃĪngt strong and therefore the balance between supply (jellyfish) and demand (tuna fish, turtles ..) changed significantly.

also in the Baltic Sea, the jellyfish Mnemiopsis leidyi has been sighted and thereby threaten the fishery.
